Karinthy’s Capillaria in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, vol. 2, #2 (October 2002): The New Traveller’s Almanac: Chapter 2: Europe: From Aiolio to Zenda, p. 30.

Westwards, beneath the ocean between the United States and Norway is the undersea realm Capillaria, inhabited by lovely women with translucent skin, known as Oihas. As with submarine worlds mentioned earlier, Capillaria may be an outpost of the Streaming Kingdom, far beneath the English Channel.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, vol. 2, #3 (November 2002): The New Traveller’s Almanac: Chapter 3: The Americas: In the Rubble of Utopia, p. 29:

As we move on to North America, let us first pay attention to its many islands, starting with those in the North Atlantic. Furthest north, off Canada’s east coast, there is the miserable Island of Birds (not to be confused with the Isle of Birds found in the Caribbean) where the sole inhabitant, Amanachem the Ugly, forbids visitors, while some way south, just off Newfoundland, we have Waferdanos, where fur-covered Waferdanians go naked and enjoy a simple and idyllic lifestyle. Both these islands lie above the western end of the submarine country Capillaria, as discussed in our last chapter. The ruins of another previously mentioned underwater passage, namely the Atlantic Tunnel, similarly run beneath a number of the islands (once known as “The Wicked Archipelago”) to be found further south, out in the North Atlantic off America’s east coast.
