STRIPES

(Esperanto poem in English translation followed by Esperanto original)

by Ralph Dumain

Hexameters would be most angelic.
From the earth is sculpted a blues song.
An interruption comes from the streaks of a rocket.
What is lacking is to be filled up with silence.

May your thoughts be not querulous.
Celebrate tonight with an image
of the peace of a tiger whose yellow
forms stripes on the ground in black.

This would rhyme if I stood beneath the moon.
Symmetry is not complaisant this time.
Let there appear on the bridge a sound of surprise,
an exercise of some star on its way.

STRIOJ

Heksametroj estus plej anĝelaj.
El ter’ skulptiĝas bluso-kanto.
Interrompas strioj de raketo.
Plenigendas manko per silento.

Viaj pensoj estu ne kverelaj.
Solenu ĉi-nokte per imago
de paco de tigro kies flavo
strias sur grund’ en nigro.

Rimus se mi starus sub la luno.
Simetri’ komplezas ne ĉi-foje.
Aperu sur la ponto son’ surpriza,
ekzerco de iu stel’ venonta.
