Something else again:
[liner notes]
EVERYTHING ELSE ONCE MORE.
I HAVE SAT IN THE
REALM OF HEAVEN (mind) all my days (periods
of accomplishments) to catch a crooked
day here and there manifesting
experience after experience Dodging sounds hollow ones
(vibrations) simply by not being
there. . . . . . . . . Recording since the
beginning of illusive time My childhood in the
cave weighing and
watching all the energies to the
point of acceptance I AM ACCEPTANCE
I HAVE WAITED LONG
IN THE REALM OF SILENCE (the loudest
sound there is) all my days to see many faces in the earth dust to dust yesterday’s people
all yawning that the children know yet go on slaying
them at the feet of existence like tiny fingers on the
fence soft and wrinkled
with love biting D..I..S..A..P..P..E..A..R?? slowly into my eyes somewhere everywhere there. . . .there
and there I HAVE WAITED LONG TO
SEE PATIENCE I HAVE UNDERSTOOD I AM PATIENCE IS
I HAVE HEARD THE
MUSIC THE MUSIC OF TIME SONG AND DANCE COSMIC STRIPPED
OPINIONATED SIGHTSEERS so like the long wooden poles that
lean tied to the
buildings with rope upon which they hang
their clothes? I too can see the
sun it’s glimmering
reflecting SMILE engulf whole cities raw with the fires that burn right to the
crux of you and yourself (EGO) and his father the sun I have let it paint
green birds on my mind’s eye I have let it be I AM the sky the birds it
contains the ether that
supports such tender. . . knowing.
. . . . wings ever flowing ever living everlasting
vibration of GOD which sometimes
plays in my stomach like hungry sharks.
. .and dispels itself into
tomorrow’s chicago rain or between the
fibres of a hotel mattress to ascend the sweat
of someone else I AM is that which
encompasses all this even to it’s
infinite
|
YUM-YUM I’m sure are two
brothers that crossed the sea
on a beatle’s back or by george. . .by
ship by hip. . .by crook.
. .or by trade hoover in the dark warehouses on the pier I AM is the pier I AM watches the
tugs lug the freight. .
.freight and the oil spoil
because it belonged to ADAM in the form of an
apple I AM is that apple and the form ADAM is dead (or
realized) and Eve slips away clean with her precious conception of me I AM that conception
to her and looking in the
lofty mirrors of my soul I AM is her Eve slipped away
into the night alone dark solid high
circumference of reflection as deep as her skin I AM is her skin every receiving pore AMI to be clogged
with makeup and made into stone
forever? IAM the makeup
ALL DAY THE STREETS
ARE CROWDED car upon car pilgrims into
mirrors and red rear light
thought patterns going to brooklyn crossing the bridge
every day and never seeing the crying child whose trinity floats
across the Bronx and Queens and long
Island long Island ending in sea resolving in fish IAM is the fish as only the
fisherman know the spaces in the
net the pain of an
entering hook the rhythms of a
fish on the shore his eyes dried from
the atmosphere of this new world He sees the light and is eaten IAM is the devourer The consuming light Which is but a mere
vibration SOUNDLESS. . .
WEIGHTLESS. . .BREADLESS THOUGHTLESS. .
.FREEDOMLESS. . . THOUGHTLESS FREEDOMLESS . . .
TIMELESS. . .
INDIANS TO THE RIGHT
OF ME INDIANS TO THE LEFT
OF ME INDIANS INSIDE OF ME INSIDE OF ME INSIDE OF ME WHERE THEY LIVE SITTING CROSS-LEGGED IN MY BONES APPEARING ONLY AT
FANTASTIC MIND WASHINGS AS INFINITE
POSSIBILITIES CARVING WEIGHTLESS ARROWS ALL OF THEM SILENTLY SIMULTANEOUS IAM QUIET INDIANS

Liner notes on back
of LP: Richie Havens, Something Else Again [“Something else
again:” on front cover, “SOMETHIN’ ELSE AGAIN” on back
cover], 1968. MGM RECORDS SE-4699, previously released on Verve /
Forecast FTS-3034.
[NOTE: On the album, IAM is sometimes apparently written without a space in
between the two words. It is hard to tell, so I sometimes follow this practice,
sometimes not. I have condensed the original five columns into two. — RD]
